According to Gregory … evil has no substantive existence, but arises from the act of the will in refusing the good and deliberately turning away from light…. But the discord arising from evil cannot finally defeat God’s purpose. God must eventually be “all in all.” The purpose of the Incarnation is to restore all created beings to a state of final harmony with God. Satan himself will one day be redeemed and led to own the saving work of the Creator….  For those who lack the grace of baptism there is prepared the “refiner’s fire” after the resurrection … and then there will arise from all creation “a chorus of praise”….  The Catechetical Oration, p. 13
